What a wonderful day!  The morning started with messages about the downpour.  Large raindrops we’re falling.  It was as expected, and for a change the forecasters were correct.  The day turned warm and clear.  The damp ground made weeding almost pleasant, as the weeds came out mostly easily by the roots.

Blue Ocean Faith came out in mass to tend their adopted garden at the entrance.  PNP (Pictures needed please).  Led by their fearless leader Lisa, it’s looking great.  Their new plantings look healthy and spring blooms are up.  They also.cleaned out the Front fig beds, and did some mulch schepping. Thanks to Mike, Eliona, Rachel, Lisa, Emily, Tim & family, and others. … and they brought their own snacks!

Paul and Karis were there to tend to their showpiece gardens and we discussed ideas for lowering and reviving the Serviceberry, Amelanchier, which has grown a bit leggy.  We have quite a few on the property that will need the same care.  Fortunately, we’ve engaged Mike & Erica from Nature & Nurture to help us tame our aging landscape plan.  We also discussed the need for a plan for the entire STC chapel area.  MOTL (More on this later).

The STC youngsters and youth leaders, led by Linda, Christine & Rev Anne removed bushels of mint & and Velcro weed, Galium aparine,  by the back steps.  Ned & Roger, assisted by Natalie, dispatched the old platform frame and turned it into a lovely 6′ x 8′ planting frame for the hopefully revived Food & Faith Garden.  A large group helped move and spread the leaves.  Finally Carolyn, Nick & Steven stuck around for the initial planting of some bean, kale and lettuce seedlings.  We’ll need a watering team as the weather heats up. MOTL.

Selby our Master Rain Gardener continues to lead us in maintaining and improving the rain garden.  It:

  • Keeps the building dry
  • Improves the water quality of the river,
  • Feeds the pollinators,
  • Replenishes the aquifers and is a path of beauty and serenity.

Take a stroll, and pull a weed.  We’ve saved some for you. hee-hee

Sarah led a strike force, Avishey, Ralph, Annette, & Bill to weed & clean up the east window well & back parking lot.  Roger moved half a dozen basket ball sized boulders to the north butterfly garden, where Laura was quietly weeding, cleaning and planting.  After 3 years this lovely pocket plot is is slowly moving into the more established stage.  Laura btw, continues to bless us with her beautiful flower arrangements at the sanctuary entrance.

Above are just the highlights of many small jobs which the happy gardeners pulled off.  Thanks again to those below who made it to.  We all appreciate it.  If your name is not here, you may not have signed the sheet.  Please let me know so I can add you to our thank you log which goes back many, many years.
