March 9 | Arguments in Scripture: Embracing Diversity and Ambiguity with Anne Clarke
Our Scriptures are full of ambiguity, disagreement, even arguments that you can find preserved in an ancient text. Why did our ancestors pass a book full of ambiguous arguments down to us? Why should we read it today, when the Bible just makes people fight with each other and do bad things? Spoiler alert: We won’t answer all these really big questions in our first short BREAD Talk! But if you like that our faith is interesting and complex, and you aren’t afraid of a little ambiguity, mark your calendars for an interesting half hour together to kick off Lent. Plus, there will be Pie!
March 16 | Why Do We Dip Our Children In Water? Baptismal Theology with Toby Darrah
Baptism has been one of the sacraments of the church from the very beginning, and it comes to us from even older traditions. Initiation rituals take many forms in religions around the globe, so why does ours have the shape it does? What does it mean, and what does it accomplish? What does your baptism mean to you personally? Curious? Come learn, ponder, and question.
